The Karakoram Highway (KKH) or the N-35 also known as Pak-China Friendship Highway is the major trade route and tourist attraction connecting the Xingjiang province of China with the Gilgit-Baltistan area of Pakistan at 4737m Khunjerab Pass, the highest metalled border in the world. Out of 1300 km total length, the 887 km section highway runs through northern Pakistan starting from Hassan Abdal, about 50 km from Rawalpindi city, and culminates at Khunjerab Pass. From the plans in Punjab to the mountain kingdom the Karakoram Highway is dotted with a huge number of attractions including ancient inscriptions and carvings suggesting Buddhist influence in the region, alluring monuments, beautiful terraced valleys, some of the world’s highest mountains, and longest glaciers, gushing rivers and waterfalls, and people with diverse cultural backgrounds.
