The Majestic Horizons of the North

13 Days 12 Nights

Overview

Rising from the northern frontiers of Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan is a land sculpted by tectonic forces and time, where the Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindu Kush ranges converge in dramatic harmony. This summer journey begins in Islamabad and ascends northward either by air to Gilgit or by road through the lush Kaghan Valley to Naran, gradually revealing alpine forests, glacial rivers, and snow-laden summits.

The legendary Karakoram Highway, often described as the Eighth Wonder of the World, provides access to the fabled Hunza Valley — a region celebrated for its longevity, terraced orchards, and living heritage. Ancient watchtowers such as Baltit Fort and Altit Fort narrate stories of Silk Route trade and mountain kingdoms, while Duikar offers panoramic views of Rakaposhi and Ultar peaks glowing at sunrise.

Further north lies Khunjerab Pass (4,693m), the highest paved international border crossing in the world, where sweeping plateaus meet the frontier of China. The turquoise waters of Attabad Lake and the icy expanses of Hoper’s glaciers reflect the raw geological dynamism of the Karakoram.

Southward, Skardu opens into a dramatic desert-meets-mountain landscape. The serene Kachura Lakes shimmer beneath towering granite walls, while the valleys of Khaplu, Shigar, and Kharmang preserve Balti culture and centuries-old palaces. Skardu also serves as the gateway to some of the world’s highest peaks, including the mighty K2.

The vast Deosai National Park, known as the “Land of Giants,” stretches in rolling meadows above 4,000 meters, home to Himalayan brown bears and vibrant summer wildflowers.

Summer (June–September) offers pleasant daytime temperatures in valleys (15–30°C) and cooler alpine breezes at higher altitudes, making it ideal for exploration. Combining dramatic access routes, ancient history, glacial wonders, and serene highland culture, this expedition presents Gilgit-Baltistan as a complete mountain odyssey — both adventurous and profoundly tranquil.
