Passu Glacier

location:

The Passu Glacier is approximately 19 kilometers long and is part of the Karakoram mountain range. It is situated in the Upper Hunza region of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The glacier is surrounded by several towering peaks, including the Passu Cones, which are a group of distinctive and jagged rock formations that rise sharply from the valley floor.

Famous Food:

The Hunza Valley is known for its fresh fruits, particularly apricots, as well as its local breads and dairy products. One of the most famous dishes in the region is called “chapshoro,” which is a type of meat-filled pastry that is similar to a samosa.

Famous Clothing:

The traditional clothing of the Hunza Valley is colorful and vibrant. Men typically wear a long shirt called a “shalwar kameez” with a vest and a cap, while women wear a long dress called a “gown” with a scarf and jewelry. The designs and patterns of the clothing are often intricate and reflect the local culture and traditions.

interesting fact:

Passu Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Karakoram mountain range and is a popular destination for tourists and mountaineers. The glacier is surrounded by several towering peaks, including Passu Peak, which is over 7,000 meters tall. Visitors to the glacier can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and explore the nearby Passu Cones, a series of distinctive rock formations that are a popular destination for photographers. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend checking out Passu Glacier and the surrounding area!

The glacier is fed by several smaller glaciers and is part of the larger Batura Glacier system, which is one of the largest glacier systems outside of the polar regions. The surrounding area is home to several small villages, including Passu and Hussaini, which are known for their traditional architecture and rich cultural heritage. Visitors to the area can explore the nearby Khunjerab National Park, which is home to several endangered species, including the snow leopard and the Marco Polo sheep. The park also offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Overall, Passu Glacier and the surrounding area are a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature and the great outdoors.
