Itinerary
Morning drive from Islamabad to Shogran. It is about 5-6 hrs journey via Hazara Motorway, Mansehra and Balakot. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel for check in. After lunch, proceed to Sri & Paye for a half day excursion by local Willis Jeep (self-payment).
Drive from Shogran to Naran after breakfast. It is about 2 hour journey along the Kunhar River. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel for check in. Drive up to Lake Saif ul Mulook for a 3-4hr excursion. It is about 9 km uphill jeep track taking about 45 min each way. Return to hotel and explore market. One of the adventurous activities in Naran is to try boating in the Kunhar River if time allowed. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
The journey from Naran to Hunza is the most scenic. It is a full day journey through Jalkhar, Lulusar Lake, Babusar Top, view of Nanga Parbat from KKH, the Junction point of three mountain ranges, Chinese graveyard in Danyore, Memorial monument in Rahimabad, collision point of continental plates, Rakaposhi view point and views of mountains and valleys along the KKH from Gilgit to Hunza. An early departure from Naran will help enjoy all these attractions.
Visit the two ancient forts – Baltit Fort (700 years old fort gracefully standing on top of the valley with a commanding view) and Altit Fort (800 years old perched on the edge of Altit valley overlooking the Hunza River and the KKH) - and you might want to enjoy the traditional food at the Kha Basi Café in the premises of Altit Fort. Proceed up to Duikar sunrise/sunset point to have a bird’s eye view of the entire Hunza and Nagar valleys surrounded by magnificent mountain peaks. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive to Gulmit & Passu valleys in upper Hunza. En route explore the ancient rock carvings and petroglyphs, stopover at Attabad Lake, visit Husseni Suspension Bridge, Borith Lake and Passu glacier. You might also want to go for a hike to Ondra Poyga (the site where once an ancient fort existed now the access has been made easy by laying 1500 stairs) in Gulmit. The site provides scenic views of Gulmit and Shishkat valleys and of Attabad Lake. Return to hotel in Hunza for overnight stay.
It will be roughly 7-10hr drive time depending on the nature of ongoing construction work. It is comparatively easy to drive on Fridays. Leaving early in the morning and taking packed lunch can save a great deal of time. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel in Skardu.
After breakfast, walk up to Kharpocho Fort which is a broken remain of an ancient Fort providing scenic views of the Indus and the town. Visit local attractions including the Sadpara Lake, local market, Katpana Desert and proceed to upper Kachura. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
Located at about 35km from main Skardu town, Shigar is a princely state and is blessed with abundant natural beauty. Enjoy driving through the Safranga cold desert, stopover at the view point, visit the blind lake, explore other attractions including the Amburiq Mosque, Shigar Fort Palace, and the Hashupi Bagh (the apple garden). Return to hotel for overnight stay.
Drive back to Gilgit from Skardu only for overnight stay.
Drive from Gilgit to Islamabad over the Babusar Pass and Naran again. End of services
